The skiing story:
Edie spent eight years as a member of the US Ski Team, competed in two Olympics
(1988, 1992), three World Championships (1987, ’89, ’91), was ranked
as the top American and among the top ten DH and Super G skiers in the world.
The writing story:
After retiring from the US Ski Team in 1993, Edie wrote and reported for Ski Racing
magazine while completing her college degree and ski racing—entirely for
fun this time around—for Sierra Nevada College. Upon graduation in 1995
she went directly to New York City and a job at SKI magazine where she became
senior editor and moved with SKI to Boulder, CO in 1997. After marrying
fellow ski racer Chan Morgan in 1998, she moved back to New York City and started
freelance writing.
Edie’s work has appeared in SKI, O, Brides, Diversions, SI for Women,
Outside for Women, Ski Racing, and various outdoor, travel and sports publications.
Her column Racer Ex ran for three years in Ski Racing and six years in SKI. She
has appeared as a gear and skiing expert on the Today Show, NBC Sports, CNN SI
and RSN. Her latest project is Finding the Doorbell, a book she wrote with
Cindy Pierce that debuts
in February. For more info on Finding the Doorbell please visit www.findingthedoorbell.com
The rest of the story:
Edie and Chan and their two boys moved to New Hampshire in 2001. When not at their
day jobs, Edie and Chan are outside—from the Sierra Nevada, to the Tetons
to the Green and White Mountains—as much as possible. Both are ski coaches
for the Ford Sayre Ski Club and ski testers for SKI.
